Press Release on the Syrian Women’s Political Movement’s Strategic Vision to Achieve a Free and Democratic Syria

The Syrian Women’s Political Movement (SWPM) affirms its strategic vision for achieving a free and democratic future for Syria:

1.Preserving the Values of the Syrian Revolution:

  • Commitment to the values of freedom, democracy, and justice that the Syrian people rose for in 2011.
  • Emphasizing that these values will remain the compass guiding all decisions and actions in the coming phase to achieve a free, democratic, and united Syria free of all forms of tyranny.

2.Pushing for an Inclusive Political Process:

  • Working to expand the political process to ensure inclusive participation and prevent monopolization of governance.
  • working in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and all relevant international resolutions, including  Resolution 2118 and the Geneva Communiqué I, to ensure a transitional body that includes and represents all Syrians.
  • Ensuring that the political process leads to the reunification of Syria and the establishment of a state of equal citizenship that guarantees rights for all.

3.Enhancing Women’s Participation in the Political Process:

  • Stressing the necessity of effective women’s representation at the decision-making table to ensure their interests and aspirations are authentically reflected.
  • Guaranteeing gender equality in all aspects of political and social life

4.Preserving the Unity of Syrian Territory:

  • Rejecting all plans aimed at dividing Syria or enforcing demographic changes.
  • Strengthening national sovereignty and territorial integrity as essential foundations for peace and stability.

5.Protecting Civilians:

  • Ensuring full protection for civilians across all Syrian territories, with a focus on the most affected and vulnerable groups.
  • Activating international and local mechanisms to halt civilian targeting and hold perpetrators accountable for violations.

6.Holding Perpetrators of War Crimes Accountable:

  • Pursuing transitional justice by holding all parties responsible for war crimes or human rights violations accountable.
  • Strengthening international and local efforts to ensure justice as a cornerstone for building sustainable peace.

7.Safe Return of Syrian Refugees:

  • Emphasizing that the return of Syrian refugees must be voluntary, safe, and dignified.
  • Conditioning refugee return on achieving a political solution and creating a neutral and secure environment that guarantees the rights of returnees.
  • Provide a suitable and stable environment for the return of refugees, ensuring their return to their original areas of residence and offering logistical support to facilitate their return and settlement.

8.Supporting Civil Society and Local Communities:

  • Enhancing the role of civil society in service delivery, especially amid recent developments.
  • Providing necessary support to civil society to be an effective partner in peacebuilding and development.
  • Allow civil society to operate freely in the new Syria and provide all necessary to facilitate their work.

9.The Fate of Detainees:

  • Ensuring the protection of detainees who have been recently released.
  • Demanding the disclosure of the fate of all detainees and forcibly disappeared persons, and safeguarding their rights.

10.Youth participation:

  • Emphasizing Resolution 2250, and the necessity of involving young women and men in the political process now and in the future.

 

The Future Vision:

  • The Syria of the Future is a civil state built on the rule of law, respecting human rights, and ensuring equality for all citizens without discrimination.
  • An inclusive political process, transitional justice, and support for civil society are key to achieving stability and sustainable peace.
  • Syrian women are essential partners in building this vision, paving the way for a future that reflects the values of freedom and dignity that ignited the Syrian revolution.
