The Syrian Women’s Political Movement condemns in the strongest terms the criminal attack that took place on the outskirts of the city of Manbij, east of Aleppo, on February 3, 2025, which resulted in the martyrdom of 20 women working in agriculture, in addition to the driver of the vehicle that was transporting them to their work. This unjust act reflects the perpetrator’s disregard for the lives of civilians, as the majority of the victims are working women who contribute to rebuilding life despite all difficulties. It also reflects the insistence of destabilising forces on destroying stability and increasing the suffering of civilians, reaffirming the continued threats targeting stability and security in the country.
The Syrian Women’s Political Movement, affirm that targeting civilians, regardless of the perpetrator, is a crime that cannot be justified or ignored. The state must fully assume its responsibilities in revealing the perpetrators, holding them accountable, and ensuring security and stability in the country.
We call on the state to take immediate and effective measures to protect civilians, especially women, in light of the fragile security situation. Our country has suffered from a devastating war that lasted for nearly 14 years, and ensuring the security and safety of citizens must be a top priority at this critical stage.
We demand that the concerned authorities:
- Conduct an urgent and transparent investigation to uncover the party responsible for the explosion and hold those involved accountable.
- Strengthen security measures to ensure the safety of civilians in their workplaces and during their movements.
- Develop effective strategies to protect the most vulnerable groups, including women and workers in the agricultural and service sectors.
This crime confirms the urgent need to unify efforts to ensure the security of all citizens and reject any attempts to drag the country back into the cycle of violence and chaos. We reiterate that protecting civilians is a responsibility that cannot be delayed, and the government must fulfill its duty to secure stability and support civil peace.
The Syrian Women’s Political Movement, expresses its deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones, its profound sympathy with all those affected by this disgraceful act, and our wishes for a full and speedy recovery for the injured.
Mercy for the victims
Justice for all who have suffered injustice and assault
