Meeting of the Syrian Women’s Political Movement with Canada’s Special Envoy to Syria Omar Alghabra

Members of the General Secretariat of the Syrian Women’s Political Movement, Mariam Jalabi and Wejdan Nassif, and the SWPM’s Executive Director, Alma Salem, met with Canada’s Special Envoy to Syria, Omar Alghabra, and Canada’s Ambassador for Women, Peace and Security, Jacqueline O’Neill. The meeting took place virtually on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
During the meeting, the situation in Syria and the most important challenges facing the country’s political future were discussed, and the importance of lifting sanctions was emphasized as a priority to support the Syrian economy and improve the living conditions of the population.
The members of the General Secretariat stressed the importance of enhancing women’s presence in the political scene, and the need for the international community to continue supporting women’s and feminist organizations to ensure women’s participation in Syria’s political future.
The meeting also discussed the most important recent works and projects of the Syrian Women’s Political Movement and its future plans.
