Negotiation Skills Training in Geneva, Switzerland

The Syrian Women’s Political Movement held a training session in Geneva, Switzerland, on negotiation skills. The training lasted for three days, from July 24 to July 26, 2024. It was led by Syrian Women’s Political Movement member Hind Kabawat. The training was attended by movement members Hanan Ahmad, Rawya Al-Shammar, Saba Hakim, Ola Karman, Feryal Hussein, Kinda Al-Nasser, and Yafa Al-Hamwi.

The aim of the training was to equip participants with the knowledge and resources necessary to develop and improve their negotiation skills, as well as to use these skills effectively. Another goal was to establish a knowledge base specific to the Syrian Women’s Political Movement regarding negotiation skills and to explore the possibility of conducting more specialized trainings in the future, if needed.

The training focused on key areas such as negotiation skills, mediation, and conflict resolution. It emphasized the qualities of a facilitator versus a mediator, and the distinction between the two, Practical sessions were also held to apply the training materials, followed by discussions at the end of each day to evaluate the sessions.

Regarding the training, Syrian Women’s Political Movement member Hanan Ahmad stated: “Negotiation skills are essential and urgent in our daily lives and across all aspects of life. When we are able to analyze and understand the context of each negotiation process, we are then able to gain both personal and collective benefits, as well as build strong relationships and alliances. Successful negotiation also contributes to building better relationships and more effective solutions.”
