Participation of the Syrian Women’s Political Movement in the Event: “One Year into the Political Transition in Syria: Visions from the SWPM”

The Syrian Women’s Political Movement (SWPM) participated in an event titled “One Year into the Transition: Visions from the Syrian Women’s Political Movement,” held virtually on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. The event was organized by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) to discuss the most prominent developments during the first year of the political transition following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
Representing the SWPM in the session were General Secretariat member Mariam Jalabi, alongside General Assembly members Muzna Dureid and Nour Salam. The session was moderated by Jihan Al-Hadidi, Middle East and North Africa Policy Officer at the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security.
The discussion addressed the key achievements, challenges, and lessons learned during the first year of the transitional phase in Syria, highlighting local reconciliation efforts and transitional justice pathways. Discussions also covered constitutional reform and the role of women in political life. The session focused on the role that women leaders play in shaping Syria’s new future, and the necessary requirements to ensure a comprehensive post-conflict recovery and the achievement of a sustainable democratic transition.
