Syrian Women’s Political Movement Attends UN Security Council Meeting and Engages with Syrian Diaspora in New York

 

On Friday, April 25, 2025, the Syrian Women’s Political Movement (SWPM) attended the UN Security Council meeting held to discuss the latest political and humanitarian developments in Syria. SWPM was also present at the ceremony of raising the new Syrian flag alongside the flags of member states at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. SWPM was represented by Secretariat member Mariam Jalabi and General Assembly member Sana Mustafa.

SWPM also participated in a meeting between the Syrian diaspora in the United States and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani. During the meeting, the Movement emphasized the need to increase the participation of Syrian women in political life and in decision-making positions. SWPM  expressed concern about the ongoing violations on the Syrian coast and stressed the importance of a transparent and urgent accountability mechanism. The Movement also expressed its readiness to cooperate with the government and provide any support that would contribute to achieving a Syria based on equal citizenship, where the values of justice and democracy prevail.
