Policy Brief: Transitioning to a Secure Future – Syrian Women’s Perspective on Transitional Governance

In June and July 2022, SWPM consulted in 12 online sessions with 130 Syrian women from diverse cultural, social, and political backgrounds on questions of transitional governance in Syria. Five of the discussion groups were from the areas under the control of the Syrian regime, and seven in the areas outside the control of the regime, four of which were in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration of Northeast Syria.

This policy brief presents eight key messages of these consultations, based on the SWPM Policy Paper “Syrian Women’s Perspective on Transitional Governance: Transitioning to a Secure Future”, along a feminist perspective. It puts forth their needs, demands, and worries regarding a transitional period for Syria starting with the set-up of a transitional governance body as suggested by UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2254.
