The Syrian Women’s Political Movement’s Statement on Condemning Violence, Incitement, and Hate Speech

The Syrian Women’s Political Movement is closely following the recent events in the areas of Sahnaya and Jaramana, which have taken on a dangerously sectarian form, threatening civil peace and tearing the fabric of Syria’s diverse and pluralistic society — a fabric that has long been one of our communities’ greatest sources of strength.
We, in the Syrian Women’s Political Movement, strongly condemn the recent escalation of hate speech, incitement, and sectarian mobilization. We affirm that mobilizing along sectarian or regional lines serves only projects of division and violence, and undermines any potential for building Syria on foundations of citizenship, justice, and equality.
In this context, we welcome the recent security agreement reached in Suwayda Governorate and stress that its full and transparent implementation — without selectivity or delay — is an urgent necessity to preserve what remains of trust between the state and local communities, and to halt the cycle of violence and violations.
We, in the Syrian Women’s Political Movement, call on the Syrian government to assume its legal and moral responsibilities in curbing armed factions and security chaos, activating judicial and legal institutions, and ensuring accountability and an end to impunity — regardless of the affiliation or position of perpetrators. Stability cannot be built by force alone, but through justice, rights guarantees, and inclusive participation in decision-making.
The Syrian Women’s Political Movement also condemns the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, considering them a blatant violation of national sovereignty and a dangerous exploitation of the country’s internal fragmentation. Resistance to occupation and rejection of foreign interventions can only be effective through an inclusive, democratic national project that embraces pluralism and breaks away from militarization and domination.
The Syrian Women’s Political Movement affirms that condemning violence and mobilization is not complete without also rejecting efforts to create new grievances or to antagonize any social component. Rather, it must be rooted in upholding the values of inclusion, dialogue, accountability, and fair representation. We view the formation of local security units composed of area residents — operating under the supervision of state institutions and within national professional standards — as a positive step toward restoring trust and building security institutions that protect rather than repress.
We reaffirm in the Syrian Women’s Political Movement that Syria is our homeland, and belonging to it is not defined by narrow identities or limited geographies, but by a unifying vision aimed at achieving real democratic transformation — based on decentralization, justice, and equal citizenship, without exclusion, discrimination, or monopolization of power.
Long live Syria, its land and people
