The Syrian Women’s Political Movement Statement on the Beirut Port Explosion on August 4th 2020

The city of Beirut witnessed on Tuesday evening an unprecedented explosion in the history of the country.

This terrible explosion resulted in hundreds of victims, thousands of wounded, and hundreds of thousands of civilians who were left homeless as a result of property damage or calls to evacuate residences near the port.

The Syrian Women’s Political Movement extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the wounded, asserts that it stands among the masses of Lebanese women/men demanding the disclosure of the circumstances of this explosion and the conducting of a fair and impartial investigation and holding all those responsible for it accountable, whether it was planned or as a result of negligence and corruption.

Today, the voices of the daughters and sons of Lebanon, renew their revolutionary demands of overthrowing the corrupt authority and holding them accountable, especially that the country was going through a severe economic crisis, to which today billions worth of losses are added, following this terrible explosion.

The Syrian Women’s Political Movement affirms its standing with the Lebanese people,  and its demands for the rule of law, the disclosure of facts, and ending the state of decision monopoly exercised by any party, and attempts to subject the country to foreign countries for any purpose or under any pretext.

In conclusion, The Syrian Women’s Political Movement extends one more time, its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes the wounded a quick recovery.
